1 PLACARD 2004

CEE Recordings, Coombe Records and midRange are co-promoters in conjunction with many other London based promoters, labels and artists of the annual Placard festival and have invited Dual to perform a short set. Dual will perform a collaborative set with US born phonographer and sound artist .murmer. They will perform a site specific sound piece using the room ambience and acoustics of the State51 factory space.

14 hours, 39 acts.
listen. don’t listen.

17 July, state51 factory, 12pm-2am

The London Headphones Festival returns… 14 hours of headphones-only performances from the cream of UK underground electronica and beyond.
Last year over 500 people packed into the state51 factory space to experience a day of headphonics. Think of a festival in reverse. Forget about background chatter: for once, it’s a chance for some focused listening. All performances are heard only through headphones, artists play 20 minute sets and the whole
thing is streamed to listening rooms around the world. To ‘open a placard’ – invite people to gather and listen to the event, it is not available as any radio stream. You are encouraged if outside London (and beyond) to create your own Placard and connect to the Global Placard. For any information on how to set-up a ‘listening placard’, contact PLACARD HQ at placard@slab.org

Lining up in the state51 warheouse space are 2004 Ars Electronica-winners Janek Schaefer and Leafcutter John, alongside Main, David Toop & Max
Eastley, dDamage, Hot Chip, Holkham, Antenna Farm, Noun, John Chantler, Adem Ilhan/8 Hours, Paul Hood, Cylens, Discom, The Sound Of Squaljax &

The Festival is organised by a network of London-based promoters, labels and artists: highpoint lowlife records, coombe records, idoia, murmer, [no.signal], slub, midRange, state51 and the slow sound system.

2. Dual – Fall on CEE recordings [CEE003] The current Dual CD release Fall is now the fastest selling Dual release so far and its quite possible this CD will be sold out of its limited pressing of 100 copies very soon. As a prelude to the Placard 2004 festival some friends are presenting a couple of events that may be of interest…

The evil twin of SLOW SOUND SYSTEM returns to the Foundry on 10 July 2004. Expect soundscaping, bass, beats, noise and electro through the evening. Onstage will be Recon, aka Fatcat and 12k/line artist Motion, this time joined by Highpoint Lowlife records boss Thorsten Sideb0ard for a trip into dubbed-out and broken techno. There’s also a special decks + laptop set from local heroes iBoard.

Recon + Thorsten Sideb0ard (highpoint lowlife, 12k, fatcat) – live
iBoard – live laptop + decks set

plus resident djs iMAX and Albert, visuals by Jayrope.

praise for Recon:
“glimpses into infinite rhythms that will go on reverberating long after we’re redirected our ears.” Philip Sherburne, The Wire, June 2004
“stripped-down minimalism … detailed, marshal and mesmeric.” BBCi

It will be loud. bring earplugs!
