CANNONBALL JANE By day she’s mild-mannered Brooklyn-based
elementary-school music teacher Sharon Hagopian… but by night she’s
smart and sassy electro-pop indie star Cannonball Jane, a
mind-bendingly brilliant mix of hip-hop samples and sixties girl group
pop. Having scored rave reviews earlier this year for her album “Street
Vernacular” in Time Out, NME, Uncut, The Times, The Independent and
many more besides, not to mention radio plays from Rob Da Bank and Huw
Stephens of BBC Radio One, Sharon aka Jane followed it up with the
incredible bolero-inspired single ‘Take It To Fantastic’, shortly to be
available as a remix by none other than Ad Rock of The Beastie Boys.
“Cannonball Jane has grabbed greedy fistfuls of pop history; Girl group
pop, buzzing garage, Motown, doo-wop, freak-beat, hip-hop, drum and
bass and smooshed them together with generous helpings of wit and
charm.” – Kittenpainting www.cannonballjane.com

THE GRAVE ARCHITECTS Born with a broken heart “The Grave Architects”
have picked themselves up, dusted themselves down and written their way
to the top, garnering praise from the NME, plays on Radio Nottingham
and a mention on the local council website along the way. Since forming
in Nottingham (July 2005) “The Grave Architects” are now seasoned hands
at the pulling heart strings out, stretching them once around the funny
bone and plucking them to the wet crash of tiny tears. Think a
hopped-up Jonathan Richman, or maybe The Rockingbirds, if anyone
remembers them. Currently in the process of recording an LP at First
Love (Nottingham’s finest recording studio), early indications suggest
that you may well throw away the rest of your records on the grounds
that they are now ‘worthless’.  “Nottingham’s own broken-hearted, The
Grave Architects, haven’t even played ten gigs yet in their short
career as a band, but already something special’s going on. (egigs.com)

tELLEY tELLEY formed in 2005 and comprise of Jim from Spearmint, Silvi
from Mikrofisch, James previously of The Scaramanga Six and Rene from
Basingstoke. It all came together quite by chance, says Jim, I had a
whole load of songs that werent doing anything, James had just moved
back from Australia, Silvi had moved to London from Cologne looking for
a band to join and Rene was waiting for a taxi that never showed up. We
just put the pieces together. Scratchy guitars, ferocious drums, cut
and paste keyboard noises all pinned together with simple melodies.
Like your favourite band before they were famous. www.telley.co.uk

SLOW DOWN TALLAHASSEE Influenced by The Shangri-Las, The Breeders,
Leonard Cohen and Doris Day and bound to one another by blood-oath,
Slow Down Tallahasse are an enigmatic, fearfully foul-mouthed foursome.
They’ll seduce you in one breath, and hex you with the next, with songs
that are both vengeful and romantic; at times a flurry of harmonies and
handclaps, and at others, delicate and bare. Inspired by the paintings
of Henry Darger, the writings of Dorothy Parker and Pablo Neruda, girl
groups, playground gangs, beatniks, fashion and folklore, they somehow
found each other and the fun began. Join their gang, and you’ll never
be lonely again… www.slowdowntallahassee.com

THE LUCKSMITHS Three years since their last visit to Europe, The
Lucksmiths make their long-awaited return from Australia with a bounty
of tales and songs from their most recent album “Warmer Corners”
(Fortuna Pop!/Candle Records). The Lucksmiths (singing drummer Tali
White, guitarist Marty Donald, and bass player Mark Monnone) were set
on foot in a bayside suburb of Melbourne back in the early ’90s, and
continue to beguile audiences with their songs of modern front-porch
romance. The addition of Louis Richter on guitar in 2004 has seen The
Lucksmiths operating as a full-time four-piece. Warmer Corners, the
band’s ninth album has found The Lucksmiths at peak form, happily
continuing the tradition of Australian pop storytelling as forged by
the likes of the Go-Betweens, The Cannanes, and Paul Kelly.
“Idiosyncratic but accessible, literate but unpretentious, gentle but
not weak, sincere not so much in presentation as in presence”.
(Pitchfork) www.thelucksmiths.com.au www.myspace.com/lucksmiths

MICHAELMAS Fron London, Michaelmas play pop music and are not ashamed
to say so. Rising, phoenix-like, from the ashes of Adekola Sound in
early 2002, Michaelmas have played shows with, amongst others, Calvin
Johnson, Cass McCombs, Jens Lekman, The Would-Be-Goods, The Eighteenth
Day Of May, Jeffrey Greene, Camera Obscura and Herman Dune. Currently,
Michaelmas are a four piece with Jude adding violin, melodica and
harmonies to their live shows and their new recordings. “Big-hearted,
big-chorused songs about love, lust and the weather”
